A life update – we’re moving to Edinburgh!

I thought we were well overdue a little life update on the blog as there has been so bloody much going on recently and with taking a break from the blog since the end of last year, I haven’t really been keeping my social media that up to date with the big changes. I’ve recently got a new job, we’re moving to a whole new city and we’re making some changes with the blog too! There’s been a lot going on behind the scenes… so here is a little update for ya.

Work

So, I now have yet another new job (oops) it’s the same thing I’ve been doing for the past 8 months but in Edinburgh! It’s so nice to have a career path in mind that I know I can develop, and it just goes to show how transferable jobs in Higher Education are as I didn’t find it too difficult to move across to a new university. Which hypothetically means that if 5 or 10 years from now we wanted another big city change, it should be fairly easy to move! It involves all aspects of what I love…marketing, working with kids/schools and working in Higher Education. I didn’t expect that I’d be in a new job so soon after starting my previous one, but it’s so lovely to now be in a job that I love in a place that I love! I’ve also booked onto a new marketing qualification, which I’m about a third of the way through now. It’s been tough trying to juggle everything, but because I do so much marketing in my job it just feels right to be developing my professional knowledge a little more.

Moving

In case I haven’t mentioned it 500,000 times, we’re moving to Edinburgh (and we’re very very very excited about it). We’ve been relatively unhappy in Aberdeen for about 18 months now, because EVERYONE we knew left and we knew that we wouldn’t live in Aberdeen forever. The job market is pretty limited for Steve up here too as he’s in Digital Marketing (if you’re from Edinburgh & hiring – hit me up). We knew we were going to move, but we didn’t really know when or where. When a job comes up in Student Recruitment – you just have to go for it because the jobs get snapped up so quickly, so when a job came up in Edinburgh I went for it (and got it). Because I’ve been so busy this month with work, I haven’t even seen our new flat yet but Steve assures me it’s beautiful. It’s also unfurnished so I FINALLY get to go to Ikea and flat pack the crap out of EVERYTHING. It’s in Leith, in a super cute location right next to a gym, a pub and the main street which is full of beautiful cafes and pubs so we are both really excited!

Blog

Things have really picked up for us with the blog, and after a few months of not really investing anything in it because of my little break and not really knowing where this was going, or if it was working, it’s nice to see the hard work begin to pay off. There has been a lot going on in Aberdeen for bloggers in the past few weeks/months, and it’s been so fun to be a part of all of that! With the move, I hope we can continue to keep the momentum going with the blog. Hopefully moving to a location a bit more central will help with attending events, and meeting more bloggers too. I think I’ll be starting to do a little more fashion related bits and bobs on my socials as I’ve actually started to enjoy it a little more than usual, plus with the big move there will be so many more good photo settings!

Mental Health

Things have been getting better, but honestly I think there is still a lot that I need to work on and go over in therapy. I guess with mental health, it’s always a work-in-progress. It can take years to get through absolutely everything you need to work on… and I think in my last sessions I opened a can of worms and haven’t really been able to close it. The only way to do that is to go through the motions with therapy. Taking a break from the things that were stressing me out, and practising my good old self-care have really helped recently too. I have felt so trapped for a while in Aberdeen, so the move has helped me to be a bit more positive and has really lifted my mood. I just need to get back into exercising and eating a bit healthier to help combat the fatigue that comes with my low moods and get some more of my endorphins going!

Wow you’ve had a busy time recently. I agree, sorting out your own mental health takes time and everyone is different. Good luck with the move!

Sounds like a really exciting time for you! I stay in Glasgow and I’d love to spend a bit of time living in Edinburgh so I envy you a little bit! I hope you have the most enjoyable time there and you find a bit more happiness!

I love Glasgow! I get tattooed there, so I am ALWAYS there – we couldn’t decide between Glasgow and Edinburgh and just went for whichever one had a job come up first – and that happened to be Edinburgh!

      Thank you lovely x
